Pandemic Paintings: 2020 Vision

For all of the limitations posed by the COVID crisis there were some interesting developments for artists. With work and social life constrained, it was not only possible, but almost necessary to focus on the beauty and poignance of what is around us: to appreciate what we had, to maintain our internal stability, to reinforce our connection with the world. For me, this meant looking more closely at nature and at human beings as a part of that nature. These watercolor paintings were my “2020 vision.”

Rocks at Crab Meadow
This Lacecap Hydrangea bush grew at the side of my driveway. I took a photo of it and voila! it seemed worthy of a detailed painting. I tried to capture the warmth of the light and the delicacy of the petals with translucent watercolor.
